Local Emphasis

SCAHACC supports local businesses and contractors through multiple affiliate chapters around the state. The chapters are geographic in nature and new chapters must start with at least eight (8) paying contractors from that area. Once recognized as a chapter, a chapter representative is elected or appointed.

Tip 1 – Embrace the Balance Sheet

It is the picture of your health. Get with your accountant (I hope you all have a good accountant that you can trust) and walk through your balance sheet and make sure you understand it. Work as hard as you can to strengthen it. It will make it easier to obtain a line of credit to help you through the shoulder seasons.

Don’t wait until you need the banker to develop the relationship. Be proactive.

Tip 2 – Defend the Margin

“If you spend all of your time putting out fires, find the arsonist and kill him!

Tip 3 – Know What You Are Getting

You haven’t lived until your tech shows up on a sheriff department’s website with a company shirt in the picture. You must do background checks.

“If you don’t know what you are getting, you deserve what you get.”

Tip 4 – Don’t Turn Your Back On the Playing Field

Everything your staff does should support the field. Don’t get caught up in the minutia. Office staff should be focused on support.

Find the balance between here and Tip 2 – Defend the Margin.

Tip 5 – Live RICH

R espect – Treat others with respect.

I ntegrity – Operate in a responsible manner and above the line. Operating below the line leads to shame, blame and excuses.

C ustomer Focused – You NEVER know who is on the phone.

H ave fun in the process.

Members Welcome

Members may attend, participate and belong to as many chapters as possible.  There are no additional fees needed or paid in order to participate in most chapter meetings.  It is requested and strongly suggested that a response/registration/RSVP for attendance to meetings (even when there is no charge) be provided to staff in advance of these meetings in order to allow for proper planning of room setup and prepared meals.

Board Representation

A contractor is elected or selected to represent each chapter at the board level.  It is hoped and believed that this representative will be able to express needs and wishes unique to the chapter, the area of the state it represents and its members in that area.

Local Networking

Often chapter meetings include a social or networking period of time as well as a program or exchange of information. A member of the SCAHACC staff is generally in attendance as well and provides an update or report from headquarters on current and upcoming activities. Over the past several years, it has become increasingly popular for contractors to travel the state and visit other chapters and non-competing contractors.
